tkDDT - DTMF Detection App
zeebar · tkddt

Announcing tkDDT!

We now offer a free PC application which you can use to analyze audio clips for DTMF tones on your PC.

DTMF Tone Detection

tkDDT Sample Screen
tkDDT Screen

TkDDT is a graphical application which lets you find DTMF tones in your favourite sound clips. It will often find DTMF tones in even low quality audio clips, the kind you would get if you were to sample audio from a movie or TV show (see our example from The Simpsons: "In Marge We Trust") where somebody is dialing a number on a touch tone key pad. You can also use it for equipment testing or development to analyze DTMF signals obtained from a test probe or from a simulated circuit.

Supported Audio Formats

The following file formats should work at 8 or 16 bits per sample and both mono and stereo:

  • Microsoft RIFF (.wav) PCM
  • Microsoft RIFF (.wav) unsigned linear
  • Microsoft RIFF (.wav) MULAW
  • Sun/NeXt Audio (.au) PCM
  • Sun/NeXt Audio (.au) ULAW

If your samples have a format different from this, please use your favourite sound conversion tool to convert it to one of the supported formats.

Supported Operating Systems

tkDDT is available for Windows/XP. Although it also runs on other operating systems, kits for other platforms will only be made available if there is sufficient demand.

You may try your luck with Windows/2000, Windows/ME, and Windows/NT, but although the code will probably install and work, the software has not been tested on those platforms. (Please do let us know if it works for you!)

If you want to try your luck on pre-XP windows, you will probably want to download the new Microsoft Installer 2.0 for Windows9X/ME.

Download

You can download tkDDT 1.0.5 for Windows here.
