If you have a Sony digital still camera with a USB port
such as the DSC-F505 or a USB memory stick adapter, you
can use dumpstick to download the contents to your FreeBSD
file server.
Copying the files in and of itself is trivial, but
dumpstick does more than that: it preserves the
creation dates of your JPG's and MOV's while copying them
into a directory named after the date on which they were
taken, creating directories as needed. Between that and
zumbnail
you should be set.
The companion script cleanstick will do exactly what
its name suggests and will do so without prompting you
whether or not you are absolutely sure you want to blow
away the data on your stick.
In case you didnt know: Sony memory sticks can go through
laundry at least twice without loosing any data. Mind you,
all traces of the paper label will be gone, but the data
will still be there.
